Dear Sonoran Community,
The U.S. Supreme Court decision reversing Roe v. Wade ended Federal protection of a patient’s rights to privacy and their personal freedom to make reproductive health decisions including abortion. Those who reside in many states and entire regions of the country will be forced to travel hundreds of miles to receive evidence-based reproductive care performed by medically qualified, licensed practitioners. For all these patients, access to a safe abortion will be costly and difficult. For many, the lack of financial means will make traveling to other states where medical abortions are safe and legal, unattainable, further exacerbating healthcare disparities in our country. We also acknowledge that some members of our community oppose abortion based on religious and personal beliefs about when life begins. Nevertheless, we stand in solidarity with patients and our healthcare colleagues to respect pregnant peoples’ rights and to honor the patient-doctor relationship in making those evidence-based decisions.
Respectfully,
