Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences (Sonoran) is proud to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Bland will be this year’s speaker for the commencement ceremony of the graduation of those receiving a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition (MSCN) or a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND).
The event, taking place on December 20, will honor the inaugural cohort to graduate with this master’s of Clinical Nutrition degree from Sonoran. In addition to the 28 Masters of Science in Clinical Nutrition candidates, the commencement will also celebrate 22 Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine candidates. Three ND candidates will be graduating from specialty Honors Tracks including Community Medicine and Nature Cure.
Dr. Bland is the founder and president of the Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute and has more than four decades of experience in the field of human health. Known as the founder of the Functional Medicine movement, Dr. Bland also has a focus on education within the field and is the author of best-selling books and peer-reviewed publications.
“For the past 40 years, Dr. Jeff Bland has been one of the most important teachers, researchers, and leaders in the field of integrative healthcare,” said Dr. Paul Mittman, president and CEO of Sonoran. “His work shaped a generation of healthcare practitioners, who in turn helped millions of patients. We’re honored that he will be addressing this graduating class.”
The Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition program offers students the opportunity to become an expert in the field of clinical nutrition. The innovative curriculum covers a wide range of topics including self-care, dietary supplements, nutrigenomics, microbiomics and more. Additionally, coursework meets the needs for students to sit for the Certified Nutrition Specialist exam from the American Nutrition Association.
The Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine is an accredited four-year medical degree program. Graduates are eligible to sit for board examinations to become licensed naturopathic doctors and apply for a residency program. Utilizing the latest technology including web-based coursework, lecture notes, state-of-the art laboratories, the Ric Scalzo Institute for Botanical Medicine, and hands-on clinical experiences, the curriculum includes a strong foundation in biomedical sciences in addition to naturopathic modalities and therapeutics. Sonoran has received recognition from the profession for its forward-thinking approach to teaching through systems-based models, employing team-based learning, and exposing students to clinical experiences in the first year of the program.
